Life is a journey, not a destination.

If you are looking for inspiration to find meaning in your life, welcome. If you looking to discover the origins of your Khmer roots, welcome home.

I am Sothy and I started this website to bring my passion of writing and community together, to celebrate life, love and Khmer Krom. I wanted to share my story and the stories of others like me, who are seeking to find their place in the world and help to amplify the stories and voices of the Khmer Krom people.

Born in Cambodia, my family and I trekked the forests of Dang Rek mountain in search of better opportunities. After spending several years at the Site 2 Refugee camp, Australia became my first adopted home in the 1990s. We were given a second chance to rebuild our lives free from poverty, hunger and war.

In 2000, my journey of discovering who I was started with a simple google search on Khmer and landed on the Khmer Krom Network, the first Khmer Krom website created by a group of youths abroad. When my dad told me that I was Khmer Krom, I did not believe him but was I in for a surprise of a lifetime!

My trip back to Kampuchea-Krom, the lands of my parents and ancestors in 2005.

Cher Teal is about discovering your roots. Your identity. Your culture. The history and stories of your parents and ancestors. Only by knowing where we come from, could we truly embrace the many parts that make up our multicultural self and identity. Become confident and proud of who we are. Check out this FREE guide on how to find your Khmer Identity.

Regardless of where we come from or where we live, Cher Teal is also about celebrating life and love. The ups and the downs. The success and the failures. The different journeys of spirituality, mindfulness, minimalism, education, parenthood or even becoming a chef at home.

Most importantly, Cher Teal is a place where we, as human beings can share ideas, thoughts and stories that makes us laugh, cry and appreciate all the gifts that life brings into our world.
