Embracing Fall With Fasting

It is a hot and humid day here in the City of Orlando. Despite the heat, the leaves are rustling in sync with the wind as if dancing in happiness. Happy that the Fall is here.

Along with the changing leaves, comes the smells of pumpkin spice latte and the delicious pumpkin pie. Not to mention the fabulous feast happening on thanksgiving day. While I am excited about Fall and food (who is not?) I am definitely not excited about any extra pounds.

Are you?

To combat any more holiday weight gain, I have to decided to embrace Fall with Fasting.

Fasting Starts and Stops.

Remember some earlier posts I did about Balancing Food Abundances with Intermittent Fasting (IF) and a Fasting February? It was 2021 and I had just learned about IF and was open to trying it out. I tried it for a couple of months, then stopped and started again. Like a broken record, fasting was intermittent.

It wasn’t until almost 2 years that I made a serious commitment to lose the weight once and for all. Armed with a good understanding IF and more experience under my belt, I Iost fifteen pounds in four months. A number that brought me into the healthy weight range and allowed me to fit into my old clothes again. And did I celebrate! I bought a new iPhone, new clothes and even went to Australia for a month!

I realized that the journey was not just about losing the weight. I learned to apply discipline in my personal life and approached life with a newfound confident. I was happy and felt like I had conquered the world. All, I had actually conquered was my goal of being healthy and being mindful of the food I was eating.

But Life Happens…

And like all good things that come to an end, my fasting journey came to a halt. Life started to get busier and busier and it was hard to consistently apply fasting in my life. Starting any journey can be hard but maintaining weight loss was difficult. And so the weight crept up and before I knew it, I was back to square one.

Disappointed? Yes.

Giving up? No.

Like the restart button on your phone or computer, we too can hit the restart and start again.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill

Start today.

Start by knowing your WHY. Why do you want to do this? What do you hope to achieve? Is it to achieve a healthy weight? To have energy? To live longer?

I am doing this because it has worked for me. I want to focus on my health so I can feel better and stronger.

As I recommit to this fasting journey, I know there will be days that will be harder than most. And that is okay. Whether I fast for 13 hours or twenty, I will give myself grace and celebrate the effort. You should too.

Final Words

I hope you will join me as we enter Fall not with overindulging in food but eating with intention. We can still enjoy our pumpkin spice lattes but during our eating window. Here are some tips on Intermittent Fasting if you are ready to embark on this journey with me.

  1. Oh, Sothy! Good for you! I try to eat only between the hours of 7 and 7, which shouldn’t be overly challenging–except I awaken at 3:30 in the morning, so I do feel it. I hope you do NOT attempt to fast for 20 hours! (That’s crazy talk in my book.) But I wish you well on your IF journey–and also wish you lots of pumpkin lattes and pies!

    1. 7 to 7 is great! You take great care of yourself so I think you are good. I have a lot of stubborn baby fat that I need to get rid of and I have to fast at least 18hrs for the body to access fat as a fuel source. I have done 24hrs before and it was interesting. Takes a whole level of discipline 💪. I look forward to being in a place where I don’t always have to fast for as long and will be in a healthy range.
