A moment of stillness in a world of chaos

It’s a quiet morning here. There is no rain, no wind. Just the sound of an occasional snore from Boran against the stillness of the early morning.

Usually there is the sound of the wind and yet it’s a silence that seems flat and lifeless. As if the world is holding its breath in anticipation of something big about to happen or perhaps it is in tiredness, an echo of how we feel with the unfolding events in the last couple of days, months and years.

From the unfolding and tragic events unfolding in Afghanistan to the approaching Category 4 hurricane heading to Louisiana this morning and the uptick of covid 19 cases, it feels like the world that we live in is spinning into chaos.

In some ways, it is. But in other ways, it is not.

As I think of all the people that are being impacted by this storm and events unfolding internationally, I find myself feeling a sense of gratefulness for the stillness of this moment.

For the shelter of this house, the access to running water and electricity. For the love of my family and friends during this time.

I am thankful for the many heroes that work effortlessly to make sure we are okay. Many go unrecognized but are much needed to make the world a better and safer place.

And remember, even in the greatest storm of a hurricane, there is a stillness in the eye. A calm that is generated from being organized and prepared to lend a helping hand regardless of what unfolds.

Whatever today brings, I wish you safety, peace and courage to deal with whatever comes your way. We will be okay.
