As I venture outside to welcome this day, I am greeted by a symphony of songs orchestrated by nature.
Beep. Beep. To my left, a bird chirps loudly, sounding like a beep of a car horn, constant and persistent as if it wanted to be the loudest of all. A few moments later, a small black bird emerges from the highest branches of the bamboo tree, with three smaller birds following in tow. The first bird continues its call, leading the other birds to the cover of the next oak tree, like a father leading his children to their next adventure.
A different kind of chatter comes from the oak tree on my right, the chirps low and rapid, like a mother giving quick instructions to her babies.
Moments later, a loud roar from a plane above drowns the chatter of the birds, adding to the chaos of the morning.
As the sound of the plane fades into the distance, the birds continue their chatter, busy preparing for the arrival of spring, celebrating the arrival of the sun, bringing warmth and life to this part of the world.
A green bud grows from the side of the trunk of a plant I had chopped off last summer. Nestled between its newly formed green leaves, lies a small drop of water, sparkling amongst the sun. Ants roam inside the bud and around the bark of the plant, seeking food and nourishment.

Like the excited chirps of the birds and new growth of plants, the arrival of springs brings a sense of hope, of healing and a time to renew our energies.
March is also the month for women, an opportunity to celebrate the women in our lives, to highlight and honor her contribution within her family and our community. I will be dedicating several posts to talk about what it’s like to be a woman and ways we promote and protect her rights. If you would like to follow the women’s campaign that will be spearheaded by KKFYC & KKF, follow our Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/kkfyc/ or join the UN women’s campaign via https://www.instagram.com/unwomen.
If you haven’t ventured outside lately, I hope you will do so today. Take a short walk to soak the warmth of the sun, hear the songs of the birds and feel energized for the day.
