Today I went for a run. I really didn’t want to. It was warm and quiet inside the house. But then I remembered the group that I had signed up for me to keep accountable. And I also remembered that this was my self care moment, an opportunity for me to take control of my day and do something positive for myself.

So I put on my sneakers, turned on my Spotify app, the C25K app and started jogging. For those struggling to find inspiration, I hear you.
Perhaps these are some ways that could help you:
- Find a support group. Start with your family or friends. Ask if they would be interested in joining and supporting you.
- Set up yourself for success by preparing your fitness clothes. The night before. You don’t want to be digging into piles of clothing trying to find that pair of pants that you hadn’t used in months.
- Determine what type of exercise you will be doing and where. Are you running outside, on the treadmill or doing a virtual fitness class?
- Decide on how long you want to exercise. If you haven’t done exercise for a while, start with a 7min or 15 min walk.
- Just start. Don’t overthink it.
- Food matters. What you feed into your body does affect your performance. We will cover it at another time. Just don’t go to McDonalds after you have exercise :).
Getting started is one of the most difficult challenges when it comes to fitness. As those excuses come into mind, remember that you are doing this for yourself. This is a form of self care. For your body and your mind.
Only by working on yourself, can you be better at helping others. You don’t have to do this alone, reach out to a friend today and create a support system so you can be kept accountable and inspired in your fitness journey.
Start today. I believe in you!
